The next Dene Leadership Meeting will be held in Inuvik, NWT from April 16-19, 2012. The meeting is in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement that was signed in 1992. The Gwich’in will be having their celebration in their community beginning Thursday, April 19 to Sunday, April 22.
The Gwich’in are encouraging all Dene leadership and visitors to stay and celebrate with them. The Dene Nation will provide options for the leadership returning to their home community after the Dene Leadership Meeting and the Gwich’in celebration.
The Dene Nation will be covering the cost for one Chief, or community leader, to attend this important Dene Leadership Meeting. Those who want to stay for the Gwich’in celebration over the weekend will have to provide their own funding. If you have any questions concerning this matter, feel free to contact Mr. Barrett Lenoir, Acting CEO, at the Dene National Office (867) 873-4081.
